Mother, partner, and entrepreneur – an everyday Black woman at my core. When I am not recording, I spend time with my family and friends and build my business. I am a Jersey girl – from Newark “Brick City.” My educational pursuits and career allowed me to live in Baltimore, Atlanta, and Los Angeles over the years, but I am now back home in New Jersey. I am the Founder and CEO of Denise Anderson & Associates, LLC, a public health and healthcare consultancy firm. For 20 years before working full-time in my firm, I persevered as a public health practitioner at the local, state, and federal levels. I am also a trained social scientist with a doctoral degree in urban systems with a health concentration. My goals are to authentically show up and be present, enjoy life, grow my business, and improve the lives and livelihoods of Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).
A few fun facts about me!
I am a Pisces, my favorite color is purple (royal – why not?), and my favorite season is fall. One of my greatest pet peeves is people clipping their fingernails in public – the sound is equivalent to someone running their nails across a chalkboard to me. The things that frustrate me the most include but are not limited to racism, misogyny, privilege, marginalization, and inequities. This James Baldwin quote describes my sentiments the best “To be a negro in this country and to be relatively conscious is to be in a state of rage almost all of the time.” And here, on the Unapologetically Black and Female podcast, we will cover it all: Unapologetically Black Females (UBFs) and Allies.
